Why the Platypus?
About Terrell Carter
Hello, I am a graphic designer based in San Diego, with a B.A. in Humanities from Yale University and a certificate in Graphic Design Fundamentals from San Diego City College. I specialize in creating impactful visual solutions, from conceptual graphics to digital flyers. I combine my design skills with a deep understanding of historical context and community engagement. I am taking on new clients and look forward to working with you!
When I first started designing graphics I considered going into architecture. I was accepted into SCI-Arc and met with a chair of a graduate program there. After reviewing my portfolio, he joyfully declared that I was like a platypus: awesome but hard to classify. It stuck!
My Latest Projects
This month I am creating a new visual identity for the fair trade certifier, Fair for Life. This is a comprehensive rebrand involving overhauling the company's logo, stationery, business cards, and website. I am matching the company's graphics with its personality and voice to create a cohesive brand identity system.
I am proud to be making graphics for a non-profit group that fosters queer community through board game events. For this project, I focused on modularity: creating elements that could be interchanged and updated. I wanted to play off the idea of a classic game board.
